Dylan is great, he covers a lot of local high school sports on Long Island and does writing for MLS covering NYCFC.
He also is a sometimes contributor on NYCFC.com.

It's really funny personally for me because I can my news on my alma mater's lacrosse and hockey teams and NYCFC on the same feed.

Questions:
Will Herrera start? If so, will Vieira play him in a 4 man midfield, will he sub off Pirlo? If I had to guess he will give him his first start either in the WM or for Ring. He seems sensitive to always subbing off Pirlo.

3 man or 4 man back line? I think the 3 man back line plays right into Columbus strengths on the wings.

If we go with 4 who plays LB? Wallace, RJ, Sweat? I thought the wallace experiment was a disaster, but that was with 2 days of training. I wonder how he looked this week?

Agree that I think we should go with 4 in the back this match.

I'm not sure why, but I have confidence that Wallace would be able to figure it out and be a very serviceable LB in a 4 man back line with some more training.

That said, I think for this game we should have him up at LW in order to put pressure on Afful. I think the only other option at LW that would provide the speed and athleticism to occupy Afful would be JLew, but I don't want to throw him out there for his first start there yet.

So then who goes at LB? I won't pretend to know a lot about Sweat, so possibly him, but I'm kind of tempted to go with RJ here.

I think you both have hit upon the big issue.

Having Wallace and TMac together on the left didn't work smoothly. Having 3 guys in back didn't work well in DC.

However, we only had a day or two to figure out an approach after Mata went down. Now, we have a whole week to implement a plan.

So, what will that be? Will we spend the week getting Wallace working at LB and he and TMac partnering better on the left? Or, will we spend it practicing the 3 man back line? Or will it be something else?

If we go with the normal 443 (and everybody is healthy), then it makes sense to use RJ at LB (unless Sweat has passed him in practice), and I'm for dropping Pirlo and using Herrera- give Columbus a look they aren't expecting since every team is now preparing by sticking a midfielder tightly on Pirlo.

Wallace - Villa - Harrison
------- Maxi - Ring ------
---------Hererra----------
RJ - Callens - Chanot- White
-------- Johnson --------

What I'd like to see is something different that could really Fck with columbus' preparations. Either a 343:
Wallace - Villa - Harrison
------Maxi - Camargo -----
------ Hererra - Ring -----
Callens - Chanot- White
--------- Johnson ---------

Or the 334 for added scoring options and really Fck with their CB marking:
Wallace - Villa - Okoli - Harrison
----------- Maxi ---------
---- Hererra - Ring------
Callens - Chanot- White
---------- Johnson --------

I like your other formation options, but with as strong as Columbus is on the wings, I hope we run out 4 at the back for this week.

That last formation really intrigues me though, I really hope Okoli returns to the 18, because he provides a lot that others on our roster cannot. I would argue though, that that formation would look much more like a 3-2-3-2 with Wallace and Harrison slightly further back than Villa and Okoli.

I also hope that in a 3-man backline, that Brillant can be back there instead of White. I know Brillant had an atrocious game at DC, but I'm holding out hope that that was more due to lack of training in it and that he may have it figured out now. I know White has played decent at RB, I'm just not certain with him as a RCB with 3 at the back.

I feel like the answer is no but does anyone know if MLS live works abroad?

Yeah, I thought about labeling it a 3-2-3-2 but figured I'd accentuate the attacking side of it rather than the defensive. And I really want both CB's to be tied up marking Okoli and Villa - that will cut down on one shifting out to dbl-team Harrison.

I'd love for Brillant to step up to the role, but I'm not sure he's mobile enough in back 3. Last year he was most effective in a 4 where he wasn't dragged to the sidelines to mark a fluid winger. Him on the outside gives me the same nerves that Hernandez elicited last year. So for him to be effective, he'd need to go into the center with Chanot out wide, but that nullifies Chanot's role as organizer and allaround fireman. With White, we have a more mobile player that's kinda figured out how to play on the outside (in a 4) and has the speed to selectively overlap. I just don't know if he has figured out/learned how to play outside in a 3? His biggest problem was always ball-watching and hesitating on moving to his mark - both of which he's improved dramatically on this year. So I edge to White simply because he's in game-shape and has the minutes logged understanding the movement of his teammates in game situations.

I like that 3-3-4. It doesn't seem like Vieira has confidence in Okoli though.
