2017 Roster Discussion

Peruvian NT assistant coach was visiting with Vieira and Callens.

I'm told it's not a guarantee he gets a national team spot. The coach was on his way back from Russia where he also met with some Peruvian players.

If he is called up, Peru has WCQ's next month and the first week of September.

I honestly don't think it's smart to spend GAM or TAM money to fill in the holes of our roster for this season. We're not going to win MLS Cup and that's the goal. Don't make any rash signings this season, save the allocation money for the offseason.
We absolutely have a shot at MLS Cup. I get being disappointed about last night, but to act like we are suddenly terrible is ridiculous. Look at Seattle last year as evidence enough, and I am not even talking about their regular season. They needed an offside goal by Valdez to beat KC in the first round.

Who knows who gets the lucky bounces or has to deal with injuries.

We also have no idea what this team looks like next year. What if Father Time starts to catch up with Villa or Herrera is gone and his replacement isn't as good? If you aren't rebuilding, you should be fighting for the Cup.

I'm not saying go crazy and break the bank. But a better RB last night and we probably win. (Not blaming the whole loss on RJ, just think it was an obvious weak spot)

I think we have a shot at MLS Cup but we need help. If we go in as the #3 seed, we will have to play an Atlanta or Columbus. Doable. Then maybe we get lucky and play Chicago instead of Toronto. Someone knocks off Toronto and we can advance. You never know.

But we are not the best team in the East. We have a serious lack of depth. In this league that is only remedied through an Academy.

So the injured list now is: Shelton, Wallace, Camargo, Matarrita, Chanot

Walking wounded. But makes you think that if they can get healthy for the cup run, this team can win it all with a few lucky bounces.

I wonder if we recall Gomez??? His speed could have been an amazing sub option late in the game today, just like we've used Mata the 2-3x since he came back from Costa Rica duty but before his injury. I liked the Okoli sub, but he didn't have the speed 2-3x to make the break work with Villa - a real burner like Gomez could've popped a break on goal.

People pump up Gomez, and maybe he can't be worse than some other options we have, but he has never done anything in the sparse minutes I've seen. As far as I've seen, Awuah offers more than Gomez.

As I said, all subject to my having seen little of him.

Only going based on his loan games.... maybe the USL really is so bad he's shining?

I have no idea how good Awuah is and I kinda hope we one day get to see him play that isn't limited to the 94th minute.

You watch USL? Dedication.

He's looked poor in his preseason minutes both years.

I really don't understand how you look at this team and say they don't have a chance at an MLS Cup. If the goal is to win the MLS cup, then we're already in a wonderful position to do so. Why not add a reinforcement?

I especially don't understand this take after playing with 10 men and beating one of the best teams in the league even if they were Dax-less. (Edit: though I do notice you posted prior to the game. Woops)

Exactly. Just look at Seattle last year. They were going to miss the playoffs, brought in a great player and went to the Final. We're the third-best team in the league on points. If we find the right player, sky is the limit.

So... who are we shopping for? PV said before he game yesterday that we are very active in the transfer market.
Central defense and LB/RB or LW I believe.

Considering our last actual LB went down with what looked like a major concussion I'd say we're probably looking to make moves this week.

I just re-watched the injury and Ben Sweat was basically out cold on the field for a few minutes. He's definitely out for a couple of weeks.

He said on Twitter that he's fine, I expect him to play
