I honestly felt bad for Guzan when Hebér just ruined him 1v1 for that fourth goal. The look on his face as he's awkwardly trying to guess how he's going to get rounded was just... sad.
Watching Guzman last night was like watching Guzman every time he’s ever played for the MNT. He’s a horrible keeper that has been extremely fortunate to have landed at Atlanta where Tata Martino’s Teams always covered for him with their relentless attack. This Atlanta team is nowhere near as talented overall and their backline is lacking without Parkhurst’s leadership.

A few thoughts.

Our strategy last night seemed in large part to be to suck Atlanta forward into their press and then work the ball upfield quickly - by whatever means necessary. We were taking our time in back and baiting them upfield and then knocking the ball into space for Mitri and Isi and others to run onto it. Often our guys would make no look passes over their heads with their back facing downfield into spaces they knew would be open, and it worked. At first, Atlanta refused to adjust and kept over-committing players forward. Then they couldn't afford to adjust because they were down 3-0.

Key to all that is our forward players being faster than their back line into space and having the ability to beat their defenders one-on-one. They did a terrific job, obviously; none better than Mitri, again obviously.

Ibby was a revelation last night. No, he isn't ever going to replace Tinnerholm, but if you are going to play a defensively minded right back, better to have Ibby than Miller - much better.

Anyone know where Ofori was? Rocha was solid, but I was surprised Ofori wasn't even in the 18. It will be interesting to see who plays in Ring's spot on Sunday. Wonder if Parks might be ready.

love all the comments about him saying we weren't going anywhere this year. kinda wish he had owned up to it in his article, but whatever.

It's a good article. I like him breaking down our strategy.

I was going to post something snarky like: "now that our magic number is 1, we are the clear favorites..." but I wanted to be nice given the article.

in street clothes, i think it was him in a hat, he was with the team in the end talking to supporters.

hope he's not injured! we'll need all hands on deck going into the playoffs.

there were no rumors GMS on the other had some ankle issue i think and didnt play in dallas and again tonight

Anyone have video of the moralez penalty? He missed the entire net? He HAS to give up penalty duties.

this is a better highlight reel of mitri's hat trick than what MLS provides in the official highlights. yes i know they're both from MLS. it gives a better look at the ball movement leading up to mitri's goals, which are cut out of the official highlights for some stupid reason.

What did you expect the Ring Leader to say after expertly orchestrating the great winning show over ATL? I loved that he basically claimed the CUP as ours. It really is ours to lose at this point. If we are in top form, I don't think there's anyone who can beat us.

Need to get a point in NE. hopefully the bench steps up once again and make it happen.

yea quoting myself.. but was just watching Ring's speech again and just had the thought it would have been great if he had said "did you enjoy the show? WERE YOU NOT ... ENTERTAINED?!?!"

btw - i know it was a weeknight game and people had to get home but I wish more people had stuck around to witness the speeches and ceremonies. not a knock on anybody. just think it would have been really special to have ring and dome address the packed stadium rather than basically the supporter's section.

I was among the many who left, though I wish I could have stayed. I thought it was the best NYCFC night at Yankee Stadium maybe ever. I'm not even sure what competes. We won 1 playoff round ever, at home last year, and it felt disappointing that we even had to play that round because of how the season ended. The 11 against 9 derby tie last year was great, but in the end just a draw at home when we needed a win. The Historic Home Opener was up there, but Game 2 of a season -- even a first ever home game -- can't compete with a potential clinch. I had nervous energy as soon as I left my office last night and it never dropped.

I agree Ibby did well, I worry that the approach could be easily game planned against if a team knew it was coming and we were forced to use it over multiple weeks or in back to back playoff games. Ibby rarely went forward and we attacked up the left with an overload almost exclusively in the first half. ITS provided a bit of balance by occasionally dropping to pick up the ball in the midfield but we ran no overlaps on the right.

It didn't really hurt us because as others have pointed out Atlanta's high press created a ton of space in the midfield so we didn't need both outside backs in full wing back mode. Props to Dome for finding a great RB back up solution for last night but I'm not convinced it will be possible to go that route as a back up plan for Tinn against all teams.

thanks to a slow subway and long lines, I only just got in to place about a minute or so before the first goal, so spotted myself in the cheers desperately trying not to spill my beer in the ruckus
