USMNT Talk

I was excited to see the Roldan and Acosta CM pairing but they were both disappointing.

Arriola looked like the most dynamic player there had trouble combining with others probably because Zardes and Agudelo were black holes.

Was very happy with Arriola's play. Arriola & J Smooth were definitely the bright spots last night.

Would have loved to replace Agudelo & Roldan early on for Dax & Dom. Dax to quarterback the middle defensively and Dom to do everything better than Agudelo.

(And obviously let Johnson touch the pitch)

Hamid starting tonight. Likely Guzan and Hamid being sent home for Howard and Gonzalez so we won't see Johnson back until after 7/26. So he's been in camp this entire time and won't get to see the field. Fuck you Bruce.

If you're going to bring in a 3rd keeper who won't see the feild for a MONTH. Then bring in a euro based player on break or a young sub to gain experience. He's not only hurting our team with this, but he's hurting SJ's form if he ever does need to use him.

Just a couple thoughts:

  • IMHO the two goal scorers Rowe and Corona I thought played poorly all game besides their goals. If we have to depend on guys like them to play on the wing and midfield against real competition we are in trouble.
  • Zusi was a hot sack of garbage. I don't think I really have anything meaningful to say about him because he didn't really do anything meaningful on the field besides almost cost us the game multiple times. I think its a shame that he isn't one of the 6 going home because of our lack of rightbacks. Lichaj better be starting from here on out.
  • Dax had one or two stupid mistakes but I thought he was more composed and more solid than Acosta and Roldan the last couple of games. I think he made a case for him staying the rest of the knockout stage as a DM off the bench.
  • I think the two players that helped their stock the most this game was Miazga and Bedoya. I hate to say it but we don't win this game without Bedoya. He looked a class above any offensive player on the field and a points looked like the only one that was playing with urgency.

If the rumors are true with Hamid and Guzan leaving, that unfortunately means that two of Rowe, Zardes, Zusi, Agudelo, Corona, Pontius will be staying on the roster. I expect all the CBs and FBs on roster will be staying.

its pathetic that USMNT is winning and then I have to pray to all the Saints, Angels and Hails Mary for the long minutes to become milliseconds and the referee to blow that whistle !!

So which of this crop of midfielders exactly is Mix lesser than?

I despair that Bedoya had probably the best game yesterday. He's terrible, and it's taken him 70 caps to turn out one good performance. I don't see how continuing to have him hanging around is anything but a negative.

Nicaragua was an awful awful team. Bedoya's good game, and it was (painful to say), was only because the opponent is an absolute dreg of CONCACAF.

His days are seriously numbered. And it's obvious there are, and everybody knows it, because Landon and Holden were making painful arguments for why he should be included going forward - they don't pull that rah rah "he's a good presence in the locker room and will do whatever is asked" shit unless the writing in on the wall.

I even had trouble listening to his don't cross the line speech pre-game thinking about how many times he has crossed the line publicly.

Gold Cup squad changes.

Out: Guzan, Sean John, Bedoya, Roldan, Rowe, Dwyer.

In: Howard, Gonzales, Bradley, Nagbe, Altidore, Dempsey.

Do we think Bruce would have kept Dwyer if he'd sunk that penalty?

No. He'd still have been sent home. Corona is there and he missed his shot, so I don't think the PK was tied to anything.

More likely Arena is trying not to screw any team too much; that's why Rowe, Johnson, and Rolden are headed home and they're key to each's club team. Atlanta gets Guzan as a DP (finally) plus he won't beat out Howard. Bedoya is one of Philly's better players and they need all the help they can get even if he's mediocre. KC really needs Dwyer, plus, keeping Zusi helps KC because they now have to play the better player.

I'm not a fan of Bedoya but nobody in the central midfield has demonstrated that they deserve the spot over him this tournament. Acosta and Roldan couldn't control a midfield against an island that isn't even recognized by FIFA.

While I agree with you, it was always the plan for Bedoya to leave after the group stage because his wife is about to give birth.

I was surprised that Bruce brought in two goalkeepers as part of the six changes, though, instead of one GK and a third mid. Nagbe is an excellent choice, though; he always wants the ball and tries to make things happen.

does anyone have the code for today's presale? - USA vs Costa Rica
Also looking for one. PM me if anyone has one to spare.
Who has access to this presale anyway? I used to get all the presale emails, but it looks like it's paid memberships only now, and because they play a meaningful game in the northeast once every 11 years now, I haven't paid. I wish I could get credit for all the matches I went to back in the old days.

emails? from?

From US Soccer. I used to get an email for a presale for basically every game, regardless of where it was played. Just searched my email and see that I have not received those emails in a long time. Still get emails trying to get me to buy gear though.

I think they have some sort of complicated levels/points/subscription/loyalty scheme that I didn't quite catch all of when I last went to look into it. So you may have been great in the past but now your points may have expired.

Unrelated but similarly, screw Delta and their expiring points. Oops, did I say that out loud?

Delta Skymiles don't expire. They did until 2011 I think, but not any more.

MILES DON'T EXPIRE

Miles are easy to earn and never expire.
