I was wondering about this. Probably one I'll have to hit on my own, as my wife doesn't always share my enthusiasm to watch things off the beaten path.Comrade Detective - Amazon
Just six episodes. Supposedly this is a 1980s era detective show produced in Romania that has been recently found and restored and dubbed into English so Americans can enjoy it as a time-capsule piece of Cold War east European Communist entertainment/propaganda. In fact it is completely made up: produced and filmed recently by what seems to be a joint American/UK/Romanian team, in Romania with Romanian actors speaking Romanian, then dubbed into English. The voice actors include Channing Tatum, Chloe Sevigny, Joseph Michael Levitt and Nick Offerman. All the standard TV detective show tropes are there: the main character gets a new partner he hates but learns to respect, the beleaguered chief who yells but understands his go-their-own way detectives, the other detective pair who show up just to banter with the main guys, etc.
Have not checked Patriot but will.I was wondering about this. Probably one I'll have to hit on my own, as my wife doesn't always share my enthusiasm to watch things off the beaten path.
Have you checked out Patriot? I mentioned it before (maybe even a thread), but don't think anyone had watched it. It comes off as a Wes Anderson/Cohen brothers mashup. So if you don't dig those guys, it's not for you.
ETA: I'm still pissed that it looks like we may not get another season of Alpha House or Sneaky Pete. I highly enjoyed both.

Amazon Prime has alot of HBO. Not any of the current stuff but The Wire, Sopranos, Eastbound, Boardwalk Empire, Veep, Curb, Deadwood, Flight of the Conchords are all on Amazon. Are you only taking recommendations / commentary on Amazon / Netflix Midas Mulligan ? Not HBO or Hulu or ...?

Mr. Robot, Good Wife, Justified, and most of The Americans are also on Amazon. I also liked Man in the High Castle but I haven't watched Season 2.
What Derek said is accurate. I didn't mean for our thread title to be overly limiting. Just mentioned those because they are the big VOD players. I get HBO on TV, which means you get HBOGo,too. Are you only taking recommendations / commentary on Amazon / Netflix Midas Mulligan ? Not HBO or Hulu or ...?
Huge liberties. I actually grew up in Strongs' Neck in Setauket. My church was the one the British used as their headquarters. My first job was working for the Strong family. The book it is based on is very good though.Turn, eh. Watched it all first run DVR. Modestly interesting. Might not have kept up if it weren't well placed as summer filler programming. Much credit in that almost every single character is real, though they do take liberties with the stories. You can sit there watching and wikipedia just about everyone in it. At some point you think they must be adding fictional characters to fill things out but almost all of them really existed.

On episode 6 next. It is neither psychologically thrilling nor action packed nor funny, but somehow, it hits all of those notes for me. Really good show.Ozark is outstanding

The premise sounds so Orphan Black. I have it on the list anyway. What Happened to Monday - Netflix
This was really fun to watch. A futuristic tale of septuplets hiding in a society where the law is 1 child per family. Pretty cool suspense with solid acting and interesting storytelling.
