2018 Season Ticket Thread

Maybe LionNYC LionNYC will get one as our other Pitchside seat holder. I doubt they are sending them too far down the chain.

The mail doesn't arrive until after I leave for the day so I'll check when I get back home. An Amazon Dot wouldn't be at the top of the list of things I'd expect to get from the front office as a gift.

Alexa definitely knows the location of the stadium, or maybe who will be the backup to Villa.

Just know that that device is always listening in, so if you complain audibly about the team, it will hear it and relay the messages back to the front office.

Can confirm. The note was a pre-written small card addressed to partners. I'm guessing this also went out to sponsors. The Dot has the NYCFC logo on the side.

I asked a reasonable question like "When NYCFC's next match is?" It responded, "NYCFC's schedule has not been published yet."

It has no clue where the stadium is going to be...

Hmm, maybe they should have used Google Home? It knows the next match, but no clue on the future stadium.....

Google ecosystem is hands down better than Apple or Amazon, anyone who says otherwise is a fool!

I received a "confirm your address" email. looks like we will be seeing these soon.

I have an echo dot but a little NYCFC logo on one would be pretty cool.

(Pro-tip: don't put it in your bedroom or anywhere else you wouldn't want a cloud computing service to 'accidentally' pick up any audio from)

So you’re recommending not the bathroom too? Asking for a friend.

One of my friends put hers in the bathroom but to each their own. I also cover up the camera on my laptop and iPhone FWIW. Working in silicon valley has made me more aware, and paranoid, of what bad actors (people and companies) can do with all that access but that's a whole new thread to start.

Whenever I try to explain this to my friends they think I'm some conspiracy theorist. Do you have any articles that explains this better than I can?

Sadly yes. If you're interested in the tech side of things the Washington Post published a great story on it.

But if you want to share with them some real world instances of people getting hacked or recommending it:

Here's a BBC article about a Miss Teen USA who had her laptop camera hacked.

James Comey said everyone at the FBI does it.

Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook does it.

Students in one school actually had to get a court order to force their high school to stop activating student's cameras remotely.

It's not even that much hassle, take a sticky note and just cover the camera like Zuck. I recommend it to everyone and have bought my entire family camera covers for their computers (they're like $3 for a 5 pack on amazon).

This has been Cyber Security with NYCFC Fan!

That was way worse than I thought.

that's why it's nice that Lenovo has built camera covers into their laptops and even the newly unveiled Smart Display that uses Google Assistant - this should be the standard

16,000 STH is the latest official number for NYCFC which puts them at third in the league

2015: 20,000
2016: 18,000
2017: ?
2018: 16,000

Numbers don't look very good for a team that should be one of the best in MLS.

I think that 16k number is likely 2017 considering the season hasn’t started yet.
