Germany
Mexico
Sweden
South Korea

Germany do enough to get through, Löw does his usual hijinking the roster around before the elimination rounds, ends up with Germany tying one of their games. Mexico does well enough to beat Sweden to spot #2. South Korea gets destroyed but plays some good technical footie.

Is this at close to a "group of death" as this WC gets? I may be being too generous to Sweden by saying that.

Great Mexico - they love the sport.

Im anti Mexico in qualifiers.... But since the US didn't qualify i cheer for the America's.... The new world teams :) except Argentina

Hate to say it, but Mexico looked really good today. If you were to tell me they would win, I would be of the opinion that they were most likely dominated, Ochoa stood on his head, and they snuck one past.

Now, they were pretty reliant on the counter, but they had just as, if not more chances than Germany. And Ochoa was great, but he wasn't bailing them out IMO.

Also, how wonderful are the long, cross-field passes that Boateng can launch? Those open up so much for Germany.

I had heard or read a little about this before, but I definitely hadn’t seen this before someone posted on reddit.

Interesting little piece on Osorio’s time in England. I wonder if he will get consideration from USSF for the HC position.

Spied on Evans and Houlier. Worked for MCFC. Long MLS history. Wouldn’t be the worst hire ever, even if he is a tinker man.

Germany are a shadow of their former self. But what an ending to that match. Holy shit.

Side note: I went out to Bohemian Hall to watch that match, and of *course* the guy who sits behind me is the one guy in the whole place who decides to embody Peak Parochial American Anti-Soccer Idiot and proceeds, during the first 30 minutes, to roll out literally every possible cliche about why soccer is bad. After he inevitably spouted "oh, this is so exciting, the score is zero-zero" sarcasm I gave his whole table a big hairy eyeball and dude's friend artfully steered their conversation away from soccer for the rest of the half. Then I moved. Sheesh.

Immediately after Kroos' free kick, Bohemian Hall & Beer Garden, Astoria.

I don't see a lot of German jerseys or flags of apparel in that photo. I'm guessing it's more of a causally interested in World Cup place rather than hardcore German fan place.
