I'm pretty sure MLS hired the same people who develop and run the Fantasy Premier League. FPL is definitely more interesting (especially now that FMLS has unlimited free transfers aka "I never have to plan for anything"), *except* that FMLS manages to make CDMs worth fielding (somewhat).
Yes! CDM actually being useful when priced 5.5-6.5 is nice. A 5.5 CDM in FPL is always going to be 2 points a game (+1 for clean sheet, - 1 for yellow) , not worth wasting space on. But in FMLS a CDM is worth ~4 and a good passing CDM that creates chances is a solid 6 pts a game. (although I will say its kind of lame that they get passing bonus for completting passes in a soft(er) spot on the field to the defense), definitely worth downgrading other areas to fit an MLS CDM in to your roster, especially if your downgrade has a better matchup then the primary player.
I'm also pissed at automatic substitution. I won by 4 points this week in the Forums H2H until automatic subs kicked in and a bench player's 8 points were substituted for a starters' 2. Bullshit. Set your own damn lineup and stick with it.
Yeah that happened to me too. To this guy:
It doesn't work like that. The auto subs only come into your lineup if your starter plays 0 minutes. I knew Alphonso Davies might not play because of the Champions League game on Tuesday, so I made Callens my first player off the bench just in case -- auto sub. dos Santos gets hurt at the beginning of the game and scores 1 point -- no auto sub.
Very disheartening, but I didn't have an overwhelming week. Above average in the general populous, but just average for an avid fantasy player. If only seba didn't get injured and could take his PK! argh.
Just wait until you set your lineup, then a key player doesn't play due to a completely undisclosed knock, or coach's whim, or whatever. Auto sub can save you and will help as often as it hurts.
That happens and its shit luck. It happens in game too where a guy subs off early (see seba above). If your playing fantasy and you want to win then you gotta go TINA (There Is No Alternative). Put all your points into your starting lineup, your bench should be minimums w/ best chance at playing some. If you keep hedging your luck by siphoning buget to bench players you are going to end up with a respectable season, but not a champion season. People who win, go balls out and get lucky. That's just how it goes. Guys who blow up could have been hero's if things broke slightly their way. People who hedge end up respectable but losers. Although there might be something to fielding 15 average priced players in the early weeks. If they all play well, you get a significant budget improvement for the rest of the year and don't need to worry about taking hits since subs are unlimited. (This idea needs more thinking on though, I didn't employ that strategy).
Speaking of, was it known in advance that the Galaxy's goalie wasn't starting?
I did not know of any news, but I remember seeing him play us last year and he was good, and rowe is so iffy that I said, meh, let me put him in at 4.0 since I put minimums on the bench. Normally I would go starters and his 4.0 backup, but I kept him on to see if rowe gets yanked out of his role. He seemed the best 4.0 to potentially start.
