Nycfc V Philly Motm & Post-match

One really big thing. The TMac goal. We haven't seen a strike like that all year. Otherwise we worked hard. We were victimized by an unlucky goal. We lack speed. We have poor ability to work the ball forward. But we had a great goal from a player who has rarely seen the pitch.

Also as has been mentioned Facey in CB works.

But if that TMac shot sails over the crossbar then I think this forum today would sound a lot like it has for the past several weeks.

To be honest, even though we won, the team still played like shit. The same issues we see every single game. The Union had a ton a chances and I'm surprised they only scored 1. NYCFC could have easily lost that game. Nothing has improved much, but I'll take the win.

I will say this, Poku and Mullins need to start every game. Period. These kids have talent and passion. Despite his goal, TMac should be sent packing. He's just fucking horrible. Horrible. I hope Faceys performance is real, because we need that in the back.

Hoping this win sparks something.

T-Mac was horrible? I think by the 80th minute he was the best defender out there. He was 100% committed as opposed to other players who faded.
He was committed, but he was dreadful. He looked well off the pace until his wonder-strike.
I don't blame him, he hasn't had much game time and is coming off a serious injury but if Kreis has doubts about Poku's fitness he should have a look at McNamara.

Our definitions of horrible are different. To me screwing up every pass and say stealing the ball from Villa's feet in the box are horrible. Being out of position but making up for by scoring and playing great defense late in the game is excusable.

IMO, we should play this every week until reinforcements come in. Wingert needs to be dropped.

---------------Villa-------------Mullins
------------------------Poku
----------------Mix--------------Alvarez
----------------------Jacobson
Brandt--------Facey-------Hernandez--------Brovsky
----------------------Saunders

Williams/Calle to start at fullback if fit.
Onyewu instead of Hernandez if he signs.

Alvarez provides more width Than anyone on our team. Re watch the games he started in. He destroyed the right side every time.
I know, I was just making a point that a a couple of goals doesn't mean you deserve to be in the team. I think most people on here would agree they'd rather have Shelton or Alvarez on the wing than Ballouchy, despite Ballouchy's goals.

To those who think Mullins is only better than Nemec as a sub. The short answer is while neither have any goals, Mullins has an assist in only 5 starts, Nemec has no assists any of his starts. So statistically he's outperformed Nemec offensively as a starter. The long answer is actually watch the games and don't just stare at box scores. Mullins, especially in his starts is great at drawing fouls in the attacking half, he's great at forcing corners and he's a great ball distributor who has strong technical skills to make those around him better. Mullins is a player who can effect the game without scoring goals while Nemec at least so far hasn't affected any game seriously.

That's fair enough, I just think Mac is unfit. He could be a decent player given some time.

Has Brandt shown us he is more capable than Wingert at LB or is this just a "start anyone other than Wingert" comment?

Does anyone know where I could track down a replay of the game, on TV or online? Was moving yesterday and couldn't watch/dvr.

Of course, the fascinating thing about Mullins's record is that all three goals have come when he came off the bench. Who knows if it is random chance or there is something there.

Mcnamara's goal was great, but we had a lot of trouble on the left defending between Wingert and McNamara and I think both were at fault. I give them the benefit of the doubt, neither has played on that side much so it may improve. But we really struggled defensively from what I saw.

I agree with everything you said except the part about McNamara. He's horrible, but he just scored what will go down as our best goal of the season. Ok, right. He wasn't great yesterday, but he certainly wasn't the worst player on the field for us. I'd pick McMullet at LM over Grabavoy every game even though he's actually a CAM.
