MLS - May 5 - Colorado (Home - CF)

we were second best from the opening whistle. didn't seem like anybody came to play. ball handling was sloppy in both passing and dribbling. no one seemed to be on the same page with anybody else. rapids were happy to sit back and counter on a short field with really, just one CB to challenge their quick and physical forwards.

i don't mind losing, but would have preferred to lose cause we were beat by a genuinely better team. we were just really poor today all around.

don't understand why bakrar and wolf still get starts when neither are producing. yes both do a lot of hard work pressing and tracking back, but we need goals to score. it's to the point where opposition defenders don't even seem worried about either of them.

oh well, onto the next. a tough next few games ahead of us... 7 points would be nice.

Garbage performance on a trash day. I should have stayed home and watched the Rangers.

No more needs to be said about it. Just a garbage performance up and down the roster. Coaching staff didn't have them ready to compete, and they laid an absolute egg.

I don’t think I can roll my eyes further into the back of my head. If you’re not going to say anything. Then. Don’t. Say. Anything. This is so childish
NYCFC source is what 16 years old? Yeah, this checks out then. Yawn.

That was dreadful. Two lowlights

1. Bakrar taking more than 10 seconds to come off as a sub so Martinez had to wait until the next stoppage (when it should have just been one minute). Personally think this should result in him being benched next match or just for not converting ANY chances all season.
2. Sands yellow card for something that is rarely called even though it’s a rule and then the even worse giveaway for Colorado’s second goal.

Can’t wait until our next win which will probably be in a month.
Yup, this “winning streak” (against mediocre teams) is just enough for Cushing to keep his job. I fully expect zero wins over the next four games (3 on the road and RBNY at home) - he’ll get two ties sprinkled in to just not be bad enough.

I think finally I found what Cushing is good at. Being just good enough to keep his job.

I am honestly less concerned about the fact that the kid gave a silly teaser and more concerned that there is some truth to Jovan doing even more to ensure that he was a colossal miss.

i don't think CFG would be satisfied with us being a midtable barely scraping into the playoffs team. if things don't improve in a big way, i think cushing hits the road. of course, cushing will keep his job until CFG finds a suitable replacement.

It's just so amateur hour-type BS. Just so amateur hour. Hopefully he's wrong or whatever it is isn't as bad as he's teasing.

While I understand your perspective, I would also like to sprinkle in doubt. How do we know he’s not making it up just to stir the pot?

I continue to believe this is true. They've splashed way too much money to be willing to be a midtable team barely scraping into the playoffs. I continue to believe this game was the first benchmark when they were going to evaluate things so this was a really, really bad time for a no-show. I don't think Cushing loses his job this week, but I do think his seat is very hot.

Is there a way to watch the post game presser? I’m really kind of curious what Nick has to say about today’s performance.

I’m ok if they fire Cushing, but if he goes and they keep Lee I will be pissed.
Lee sat on his hands for a year and then chose Bakrar. You wait that long you have to get it right. Then he backs Bakrar with a teenager who has played 62 minutes in 11 games and combined they have 0 goals.
I think the team does poorly at creating chances and that’s on the coach to some extent. But specifically Bakrar? He’s top 15-20 of the league in both shots and xG. He gets his chances. Cushing can’t finish for him and Bakrar can’t do it for himself. He has 3 goals in almost 1600 minutes. This is beyond slump.

Four wins, 2 ties, five losses. They are a mid table team barely scraping into the playoffs. They just finished five straight home games over (mostly) mediocre competition.

Let’s see how they are after the next four games.

I'm not sure Nick makes it to June. After our May 31 home game, we have a week off -- would not surprise me in the least if they pull the ripcord then. Unless we surprise and shock Philly and the Red Bulls. If we get four points from PHI & NJ, Nick is safe. If we get 1 point or 0 points, I think he's a goner.
